What’s the Secret to Getting Bees to Survive Winter?

 Fortunately, “the secret” isn’t really a secret and it’s within the reach of all beekeepers, no matter how much (or how little) experience you have. Bees face many challenges. But the two biggest killers of colonies during winter are almost entirely within the control of beekeepers. Mites (and the diseases they spread) and insufficient honey and pollen stores are the Great Winter Killers of Bees. You can prevent these problems, and we want to make sure you know how. Even if you’re getting a slightly late start – don’t give up on your bees! Just read the links below and start tilting the odds in your bees’ favor as much as you can before winter arrives. While we’ll be OK with selling you more bees next spring (if you need them), we’d much rather sell you new boxes to house splits made from your own successfully over-wintered colonies.
